Social Media and AI 101: How to Cope When the World is Changing

Do you remember when all we had to do was post a beautiful graphic with a Bible verse and watch the engagement happen? Not anymore. Sometimes, even heartfelt posts sometimes fall flat. Edie will pull back the curtain on what’s changed —not just in platforms, but in how readers connect —and discover how we can still show up meaningfully—using AI to help instead of hinder us.

Included in this workshop will be specific tips for:
• Using AI ethically
• Working smarter not harder
• How AI already works within every social media platform and how we can work with it instead of against it
• Specific prompts and examples of how and when to use AI
• Specifc instances when AI is a hindrance

Build the World You Love—for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and other Outside-the-Box Genres

• How the 5 (and sometimes more) senses affect the characters
• Ways to increase believability
• Tips for creating terminology that doesn’t leave your readers searching for a dictionary
• Technology
• Societal Hierarchy

Blogging for Writers Today

Blogging isn’t dead—far from it. It is still a wonderful way to connect with readers, build name recognition, and prove your topic has an audience. Edie is a leading blogging expert and her blog, The Write Conversation has reached over 9,000,000 readers since it was begun in December of 2008. However, blogging has changed in recent years. So whether you write guest blogs to promote a book or event, contribute to other blogs, or have your own site, Edie’s tips will keep you on the cutting edge of visibility.

Included will be:

• How AI has changed the SEO landscape
• Rules and etiquette for getting your post read
• Tips to insure engagement
• How to focus your blog and grow visibility
• How to write effective blog posts that make you a darling editors want to use again and again

Fiction as Both Sacred and Profane

Writing true fiction requires venturing into uncharted creative depths, where powerful imaginative forces emerge, often stirring fear and doubt. As believers, we can navigate these mysterious waters with confidence, trusting God meets us there to dispel fear and illuminate our path.

Drawing from her personal journey as a Christian writer, Wendy Murray shares how surrendering to God-given imagination fosters profound spiritual surprises as well as literary depth in a work of fiction. Participants will discuss overcoming self-doubt and discomfort, while tackling thorny issues like depicting realistic characters—those whose lives reflect complexities, weakness, at times vulgarity, and always grace. By portraying the world honestly—street punks alongside saints—fiction reveals hearts longing for God.

Key topics include: the setting and its role in plot and theme; building believable characters from real life; characterization techniques and point of view; crafting realistic dialogue; and mastering plot through conflict and scenes.

Wendy Murray’s novel, The Warrior King, was published 2011 by Ecco Qua Press and is being re-published this year on her Substack: https://wendymurray.substack.com/

This session empowers writers to transform their personal history into resonant storytelling. You will emerge with practical tools to shape a memoir that honors your life and touches others.

Wendy Murray has published three memoirs: Sacred Journeys (Tyndale, 2002), Facing Forward (Tyndale, 2002); On Broken Legs, (NavPress, 2004) and most recently, Inner Healing the Franciscan Way (Paraclete Press, 2025).

Finding the Soul of the Interview

Drawing from decades of experience profiling renowned leaders, thinkers, and also everyday individuals, Wendy reveals her intuitive yet strategic approach to meeting interviewees as fellow humans. Her approach blends deep listening, empathy and strategic precision to uncover true human stories and unexpected human depths. Her award-winning personality profiles have brought to life both prominent figures and humble souls with nuance and surprise. Participants will explore techniques for forging genuine connections, asking probing questions, and capturing the essence of subjects in ways that reveal profound humanness in all its complexity. Participants will gain practical insights that elevate your own interviews, whether for book writing, journalism, or personal projects.

Wendy’s profiles have included (but are not limited to): Fred Rogers, J. I. Packer, Charles Colson, Franklin Graham, Anne Graham Lotz, Frederick Buechner, Martin Marty, Phyliss Tickle, William Langewiesche, James Dobson, Andrew Bacevich, Bill and Vonette Bright, Diane Glancy, Jean Bethke Elshtain.

Start taking yourself and your writing seriously in order to get that manuscript finished!

Putting on a Show

The most common feedback fiction, and nonfiction, writers often hear is, “Show, don’t tell.” But what does that mean? And how do we do it? In this workshop, we will explore why showing is such an important tool for a fiction and nonfiction writer. We’ll study examples and perform a writing exercise that will strengthen your ability to show instead of tell your story. This will be a hands-on class—bring your current work-in-progress so we can help you work on improving your own manuscript by putting on a show for your readers!

The Beauty of Collaborative Writing

Waiting for one’s book to be born can be discouraging, the publication process long and slow. That, however, is the time to “hone one’s craft” as the great encourager Cecil Murphey has said. Finding opportunities to grow as a writer is key, but how? The gift of writing collaboratively offers weary, frustrated writers a landing place to 1) share their stories, 2) meet others who share their passion, and 3) hone their craft by following submission guidelines. Her own debut novel having taken nearly two decades to reach publication, author Maureen Miller shares from experience. In the waiting, she discovered the joy of what she calls “teamwork writing,” and today is published in nearly thirty collaborative works. In this practical, interactive workshop, Maureen will share helpful dos and don’ts to improve one’s success that he or she might enjoy, rather than dread, those long, waiting-for-publication seasons.

His Messengers (Night Owl)

As speakers, there are times when we hit a wall—when a message doesn’t go as planned or an audience seems unmoved. It can feel like “dry bones,” and hopelessness starts to take hold. We may wonder if the vision was unclear or simply not part of God’s plan.

This reflective Night Owl will focus on how to allow the God of Hope to restore confidence and peace when we face the unexpected challenges of speaking—from preparation that feels uncertain to talks that don’t unfold as we envisioned. Together, we’ll explore how to regain God’s perspective and guidance, learning to remain faithful to His calling even when results aren’t visible.

Myra will share her “Etch A Sketch” story as we reflect, discuss, and pray—discovering how God uses even the hard moments in speaking to shape us into faithful messengers of hope.

Workshops and Night Owl subject to change.
